About the Project

Welcome to your online neighbourhood noticeboard for the Broomhill Place Plan! This is your ‘one stop shop’ for all information relating to the project. The Broomhill Place Plan is a project currently underway in the Broomhill area, which is working to develop a Local Place Plan for the neighbourhood.

About Local Place Plans:

Local Place Plans have been introduced by the Scottish Government to bring local community voices into the planning processes of their local areas. A Local Place Plan seeks to create a cohesive vision and identity for an area, incorporating the aspirations of its residents, along with their ideas on the opportunities and challenges to be addressed. Focussing on themes related to planning, such as buildings, land use, access to services, movement and greenery, the contents of a Local Place Plan is read alongside wider planning strategies for an area, and centre community voices in considerations and changes for its future.

We want to hear from you!

Local Place Plans must be created by, with and for an area’s local community – so we need your help! In the process of developing the place plan document, we need to hear from as many people from the Broomhill area as possible, to ensure that local voices are at the heart of the final product. We will be carrying out public engagement and consultation across the summer of 2024, keep an eye out on this website for our online surveys and opportunities to meet us in person. Once we have written the Local Place Plan, it will be handed over to Broomhill Community Council in the autumn of 2024, who will then proceed through the process of having the document confirmed and accepted by Glasgow City Council.

About the Team

New Practice is carrying out this work for Broomhill Community Council.

Broomhill Community Council

Broomhill Community Council act as a voice for Broomhill. They ascertain and express the views of the community to local authorities and other public bodies, and seek to take action in the interests of its community. They complement the role of Glasgow City Council but are not part of local government. They have a positive working partnership with the local authority – and are informed on the council’s policies, and kept updated on the activities of the council.

New Practice

New Practice is a women and LGBTQ+ led architecture practice, based in Glasgow. We have extensive experience of working with communities to connect their voices to the built environment processes and decisions which impact their lived experiences. We have worked as architects directly with community spaces, and more generally to develop action and place plans across Glasgow, and with diverse communities throughout Scotland, from Whithorn to Orkney. You may have seen us in the area across 2023, working with Glasgow City Council for the Glasgow Liveable Neighbourhoods project.

Engagement Update:

Our second phase of engagement has now closed!

The second phase of engagement has now closed. We'd like to thank everyone who had their say online via the survey, or in-person at one of our pop-up sessions. We're now looking at the feedback we have received, and writing the Broomhill Place Plan.

What happens next?

The findings from this engagement round will be used to develop and refine our key proposals for the Broomhill Place Plan.

We are planning to present a final draft version of the document at the Broomhill Community Council meeting, from 6.30pm on 9th October. This will be a chance to see the Broomhill Place Plan and ask any final questions about the document. Save the date and come along!

Thank you again, and we look forward to continuing our work with the Broomhill community!

Note: If we have an online survey live at the time you’re wanting to contact us, we ask you first complete the survey as there may already be a relevant question to provide your comments there – comments we get through the survey are easier for us to incorporate directly into our data.

Project Area

A Local Place Plan must cover a specific area; please refer to the map below for the boundary for the Broomhill Place Plan.

This boundary primarily uses the same one covered by Broomhill Community Council, with an additional area which includes the tower flats west of Thornwood Drive. Broomhill Community Council has included this additional area to ensure that the Local Place Plan goes beyond ‘red lines on maps’ and respond to the continuous feeling of these areas as part of  the Broomhill neighbourhood. We want our work to equitably consider how those across this wider Broomhill neighbourhood use and access the services and amenities of the wider area.We know some people may live nearby or be on the border of this boundary, you can still give us your thoughts at one of our in-person engagement events and we encourage you to do so – check our website for details on ways to meet us. Alternatively, we suggest you look into your own community groups, as they may already be a place plan being developed for your area!
